Architect Taps Into Local History, Builds Reputation, Attracts Customers

friend and client of mine has done something quite brilliant little before - all his idea - and it's a story worth sharing. This friend has worked on dozens of very old house in Massachusetts, and what he saw during the years he was horrified. Poor planning and design, the original material was destroyed for no reason and replaced with junk, the lack of respect for historic properties - you name it, he saw it. He spent years cleaning up after other people, and turning old houses that were not treated well in outlets that are well preserved and properly used.

On the one hand, one could say that my friend will be set for life fixing other people's mistakes. But he happens to be passionate about history and preservation of our precious and irreplaceable architectural resource. In fact, he serves on the board of the Historical Society and Museum in Ipswich, Massachusetts (a town that happens to contain many houses built before 1725 than any other community in the United States !).

So, my friend was working with one of his colleagues, and interior wood Framer "woodwright," to create an educational seminar titled "Old house restoration:. How to do it the right way," He promoted this free seminar for historical societies, museums, historic house museums and public libraries, and guess what? People came in droves to hear what they had to say and learn from the experts.

I attended a large number of interviews to observe the reaction of the audience. People are fascinated by their PowerPoint presentations (especially historical overview of early architecture and before and after the segment), they came armed with questions, and they were genuinely grateful to these experts for sharing their expertise for free.

to promote each seminar, my friend, distributing e-mails and Facebook explosion in its business and designed the event poster. Each host site distributes its information to its own network and contact media. They were introduced about 20 seminars in all, and reached thousands of potential customers through a combination of outreach efforts - far beyond the number of people who actually attended the

.

offering their free seminar, my friend and colleague secured their reputation as true professionals who care about historic properties and know what they are doing. Contacting the place where people who are interested in the history of hang out, they could use in your target market in an attractive "soft sell" manner and make an emotional connection that naturally occurs when people who love old houses get together. It was a brilliant strategy to reach new customers - and it worked - and as bright as that seminar came from a place of genuine care and services. Smart Architect!
